MARILYN L. TAYLOR, Ph.D., former Poet Laureate of the state of Wisconsin (2009 and 2010) and the city of Milwaukee (2004 and 2005), is the author of six collections of poetry. Her poems and essays have appeared in many anthologies and journals, including The American Scholar, POETRY, Able Muse, Poetry Daily, Measure, Iris, Mezzo Cammin, and Ted Kooser's "American Life in Poetry" column.

She has been awarded first place in a number of national poetry contests, including those sponsored by The Atlanta Review, Passager, The Ledge, the GSU Review, and Dogwood.

Marilyn taught poetry and poetics for fifteen years for the Department of English and the Honors College at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has facilitated independent poetry workshops in dozens of communities throughout Wisconsin, including Lawrence University's Björklunden Seminar Center, The Clearing, Write By the Lake (UW-Madison), Road Scholars, the Writers Institute (UW-Madison), and across the country from California to Connecticut. She is a member of the Council for Wisconsin Writers Board of Directors, and also serves on the advisory board for the Low Residency MFA Program at Western State Colorado University, Gunnison, CO. Her widely-read "Poet to Poet" column on craft appeared bi-monthly for five years in THE WRITER Magazine.

Marilyn now lives on the far west side of Madison, Wisconsin. She is available for readings, workshops, and presentations on the art and craft of poetry .
